Hello,

I just found this wonderful graphic on another site (http://www.swedespeed.com), and thought I would post a link to it. It is from some literature put out by Volvo, and it shows some generalized info on temperature versus traction.

Special thanks to LTA for digging it up (and plugging this site!).

Interesting. So, 7 degrees C is a magic temperature that renders all tires equal? I guess there is some sense to that, even if its more of a guideline then a hard/fast rule. So, ok, that converts to about 45 degrees F.

I generally install mine before Thanksgiving unless there is a good chance of an early snow.

They come off in late March or early April, unless again there is chance of late winter snow. Usually by then, the ground temp has warmed enough or the temp will rise enough to make short work of the white stuff.

The graph makes a lot of sense. I have summer tires, not all season. When it was raining and 37 degrees F (3 degrees C), I noticed significantly less traction. So this season, I changed into snow tires when it was colder than 39 degrees in the evening. I will consider changing them at 7 degrees C or maybe when it is consistently 7 degrees or less in the evening or early morning or 4 degrees one time.

It's going to be dry and sunny with highs of up to 12C this weekend, I'm just wonderring if I should temporarily go back to my all-seasons until temperatures go back down.

While you will loose a little traction in the warmer weather and have slightly worse tread wear, I don't know if 1 weekend is worth the bother of changing between wheels. Personally, I wouldn't bother that much.

I recently saw a graphic from Birdgestone that did not show as much of a drop off in warm weather as this one does. It is similar, but not nearly as kneed. If I can get permission to reproduce it here, I will.

Very useful info there thanks for sharing.

Sure makes you think about the traction all seasons "Don't" have when you look at the temp graph.
