Yes. If I'm going to use dedicated snows then I want to use dedicated summer tires not all-seasons.

Yes, but perhaps cautiously. I don't know if your plan is to attract more users but there should be a focus on tire education. Choosing winter and summer/all-season tires that are right for the driver and emphasis that all-seasons do not cut it in winter conditions. There is no shortage of information about non-winter tires on the web, but there is a major shortage on sites that are able to educate people need to have proper tires to suit driving conditions. We need to attract more users but not at the cost of where the original snowtire.info roots are.

Blurry, it's weird regarding the whole summer and all-season tires thing. Three tires I highly recommend for a very good balance performance in dry and wet as well as comfort and decent treadwear is the Bridgestone Potenza 960AS Pole Position, the Yokohama Avid W4S, and the Falken Ziex ZE912. They're all classified as "High Performance All-Seasons". All three suck in the snow like every other all-season tire on the market (except for the all-weather Nokian WR G2s which are OK) but all three perform very well for drivers who like to go zoom in dry and wet conditions.

I find that tire manufacturers have dedicated their resources into developing All-Seasons, from budget OEs to touring to high performance. Summers have slowly been restricted to the ultra high performance tires where shear grip on dry pavement is needed thus their low treadwear ratings. For 98% of the drivers though, there is an all-season tire right for them. Unfortunately, the general population thinks that all-seasons should cut it in the snow and we need to educate them out of this mindset.

DKaz... Some great comments.

I wish I could remember what the circumstances were around first posting the poll 4 years ago. I think it came about when someone mentioned they would like to see test / reviews of summer tires done similar to the Real World Snow Tire Tests.

The reason I started the Snow Tire FAQ some 15 years ago was to help people understand that AWD, ABS, and Traction Control do eliminate the need for snow tires, and All Season tires do not replace snow tires. (I sometimes use the simple analogy: You put boots on instead of sandles to walk in the snow, shouldn't you do the same with your car's tires?)

I started the Real World Snow Tire Tests in response to seeing tire tests that featured "perfect" conditions that you or I would never see. Other popular reviews, especially the ones found on major tire reseller websites, only dealt with tires that were sold by the companies. I wanted to do something a bit different, more in lines with how Consumer Union does testing, but also from the point of view of someone who is looking for that performance edge.

The Forums were started in a reaction to the number of questions I was getting. The thoughts were simple: (1) have a place where people can see what was asked. (2) share information amongst others (two heads is better than one, so many heads....). All in all, I think it has achieved those goals, but I wouldn't mind seeing it more active. Smile

So, back to the topic: a page about summer tires. I really like the idea of saying something, but also making sure it focuses back on the "All Seasons are not Snow Tires" and "If you drive in the snow, you need snow tires." While it would be nice to be doing reviews of summer (or even all season tires), that's not the core of this site, and I think the current climate suggests focusing back on core things and getting rid of all of the distractions (that's been a theme in my life for just about a years now).
